HubSpot vs Salesforce for B2B SaaS startups
For most Seed to Series A B2B SaaS startups, HubSpot is the faster and cheaper CRM to run: sales, marketing and service on one platform, from €90 per seat per month on Professional, live in weeks and manageable without a dedicated admin in the early stages. Salesforce fits when you need complex quoting, several business units or deep customization, and can staff an admin to run it: its Pro Suite costs €100 per user per month and its Sales Cloud editions €195 to €550, billed annually. Both vendors' list prices were read on 2026-10-30. Checkpoint GTM is a HubSpot Platinum Partner and Salesforce Advanced Administrator certified, so we work in both and move teams from Salesforce to HubSpot.
How do HubSpot and Salesforce compare for a startup?
Both are full CRMs. The difference for a startup is what each costs as the team grows, what one licence covers, and how much work it takes to run.
| Aspect | HubSpot | Salesforce |
|---|---|---|
| Entry plans | Free version for up to 2 users. Starter €7 per seat per month billed annually, a time-limited 65% discount on the €20 list price; up to 10 users | Free Suite at €0. Starter Suite €25 per user per month, billed monthly or annually |
| The plan a growing sales team needs | Professional: €90 per seat per month billed annually, €100 billed monthly | Pro Suite: €100 per user per month. Sales Cloud Core: €195. Both billed annually |
| Top tiers | Enterprise: €175 per seat per month, annual billing only | Advanced €395 and Max €550 per user per month, billed annually |
| What one licence covers | Sales, marketing and service together, in every paid tier | Starter Suite and Pro Suite cover sales, service, marketing and commerce; Core, Advanced and Max are sales CRM editions |
| AI | HubSpot credits included every month: 5,000 on Starter, 10,000 on Professional, 15,000 on Enterprise | No AI on Starter Suite or Pro Suite. Core, Advanced and Max include 500,000, 1 million and 2.75 million Flex Credits per org per year. Agentforce for Sales is an add-on from €125 per user per month on Core and Advanced, and included in Max |
| Setup fee | A one-time onboarding fee is required on Professional and Enterprise; a Solutions Partner can waive it up to a value of $6,000 per client | No setup fee on the pricing page; Salesforce points to its Professional Services and certified partners for implementation |
| Control and customization | Enterprise adds sandbox testing, team hierarchies and control over who can see and edit data | Built to be customized; the Pro Suite adds more customization, automation, quoting and forecasting |
| Who runs it | In the early stages, usually an operations generalist or a part-time admin | Usually a certified Salesforce admin as the org grows |
| Best fit | Seed to Series A teams with one or two sales motions that want marketing and sales on one platform | Teams with complex quoting, several business units or products, or heavy custom data, and an admin to run it |

What do the licences cost for a 10-person sales team?
An illustration, not a quote: 10 paid users for 12 months at list price, billed annually, before VAT and before implementation.
| Plan | Calculation | Year one |
|---|---|---|
| HubSpot Professional | 10 seats × €90 × 12 months | €10,800 |
| Salesforce Pro Suite | 10 users × €100 × 12 months | €12,000 |
| HubSpot Enterprise | 10 seats × €175 × 12 months | €21,000 |
| Salesforce Sales Cloud Core | 10 users × €195 × 12 months | €23,400 |
| Salesforce Sales Cloud Advanced | 10 users × €395 × 12 months | €47,400 |
Seats are only part of the total. HubSpot Professional and Enterprise also require a one-time onboarding fee, which a Solutions Partner can waive up to a value of $6,000 per client, and both CRMs need an implementation. Compare the plan your team will need in year two, not the entry price. Our HubSpot implementation cost guide adds the onboarding fee, partner fees and migration to the licence.
When is HubSpot the better choice for a startup?
- One platform. You want sales, marketing and service on one licence and one database.
- Speed. You want to go live in weeks: a standard Sales Hub and Marketing Hub implementation takes 6–10 weeks with us.
- No full-time admin yet. Nobody on the team runs the CRM full time, and you want sales and marketing to change workflows and reports themselves.
- AI from the first paid plan. HubSpot includes AI credits from Starter up; at Salesforce, AI starts with the Core edition.
When is Salesforce worth it for a startup?
- Complex quoting. Pricing and product logic that HubSpot's native quotes cannot model. We tell clients when HubSpot's CPQ does not fit; it is rare, but real.
- Several business units. Regions, products or entities with their own processes and data rules.
- Heavy custom data. A data model with many custom objects and automation that a dedicated admin will build and maintain.
- An existing Salesforce world. An org, a team or an app you already depend on.
Choosing Salesforce early is a commitment to run it. In our Salesforce to HubSpot case study, a 120-person Series B company had 200+ automations built by three admins over five years, and less than half the team used the CRM correctly.
Can you switch from Salesforce to HubSpot later, or the other way?
Yes, in both directions, but a switch is a project, not an export. With us, a Salesforce to HubSpot migration is a fixed-scope project from €15K and takes about eight weeks for a single org; orgs with many custom objects or a merger with a second system take 12–16 weeks. In our case study, annual CRM and marketing automation cost fell 40% after the company replaced Salesforce and a separate marketing automation tool with one HubSpot suite.
Moves into Salesforce happen too. We took over a Salesforce implementation that had under-delivered, ran the client's Pipedrive to Salesforce migration and rebuilt the setup around how the company actually sells. Whichever way you go, decide the data model first and migrate only the history you need.

How much does HubSpot cost compared to Salesforce?
Billed annually: HubSpot Professional costs €90 per seat per month and Enterprise €175, at list price. Salesforce's Pro Suite costs €100 per user per month, and its Sales Cloud editions Core, Advanced and Max cost €195, €395 and €550. Entry plans: HubSpot Starter €7 per seat (a time-limited discount on its €20 list price) and Salesforce Starter Suite €25 per user. Both vendors' pricing pages, read on 2026-10-30.
Do HubSpot and Salesforce have free plans?
Yes. HubSpot's free version covers up to 2 users, and Salesforce lists a Free Suite at €0 on its pricing page. Both are a way to try the CRM before a paid plan.
Is Salesforce too complex for a startup?
Not always, but it needs someone to run it. Salesforce is built to be customized, and every custom object, flow and integration needs maintenance. If you choose it early, plan for a certified admin as the org grows. If no one will own it, HubSpot is usually the safer start.
When should a startup move from HubSpot to Salesforce?
When the business needs more than HubSpot's Enterprise tier can model: quoting beyond its native quotes, several business units with separate processes, or data rules that need deep customization. Check HubSpot Enterprise first: sandbox testing, team hierarchies and control over data access are included there.
How long does a Salesforce to HubSpot migration take?
With us, a single Salesforce org takes about eight weeks; orgs with many custom objects or a merger with a second system take 12–16 weeks. It is a fixed-scope project from €15K, excl. VAT.
Does HubSpot or Salesforce charge a setup fee?
HubSpot requires a one-time onboarding fee on Professional and Enterprise. It publishes no amount for its unified seat plans; its per-hub catalog lists €1,500 to €7,000 per hub, and a Solutions Partner can waive the fee up to a value of $6,000 per client. Salesforce's pricing page lists no setup fee and points to its Professional Services and certified partners for implementation.
Can Checkpoint GTM implement both HubSpot and Salesforce?
Yes. We are a HubSpot Platinum Partner and Salesforce Advanced Administrator certified. We implement HubSpot, move teams from Salesforce to HubSpot, and have run Salesforce implementations, including a Pipedrive to Salesforce migration.
